Project 2

Goal:
Students will become more aware of their surroundings. Students will find and photograph 3 posters/bulletin boards being used around their school with 100% accuracy.

Materials: Point and shoot cameras.
Procedure: Many of my students pay no attention to the signs or even people around them. My primary goal with this activity is to get my students to pay attention to their surroundings: What activities are advertised on the school poster? Is it something I may like to participate in? What is this class studying in science based on the projects hanging in the hall? What is that class learning about in Language Arts based on the projects hanging in the hall? Are those subjects something I’d be interested in? My secondary goal is to get them to determine the main idea of the poster or bulletin board. I’d begin with quick review on main ideas (we’ve been doing them all year. After the review lesson, students can be armed with point and shoot cameras. Their goal is to find and photograph bulletin boards and posters around the school. When we return to the classroom, we will put the pictures up on the SMART board and discuss them as a class. What classroom did we find them in or near? What was the main idea of the poster or bulletin board? Do you think the poster/bulletin board is effective?
